Vacationing

These last few days have certainly been the vacation I've needed from my vacation. On Wednesday we drove up to the farm, only to discover that everyone had left to go into town. To kill some time we went up to see Akaka Falls and then I gave Chance a tour of everything on the farm. By then everyone returned so Chance got to meet the family and we stayed and had lunch with them. Milyn grilled some red fish with big eyes and we helped her cut up a huge jackfruit she got at the farmer's market. The fish were tasty but rather bony and jackfruit is actually rather good, unless it has fallen in the dirt. Then we left and went to the Mauna Loa macadamia nut factory. The tour was self guided on the outside of the building but you did get to see a lot of what they were doing. Then we drove all around the south of the island, which was mostly covered with clouds but had rather unique scenery. We got to our hotel in Kona and discovered that the place was packed with people who were trying to attend the luau that night. It seems to be quite an event that would be a good activity for a large group but otherwise is rather silly. We tried to go in the private lagoon but it was too cold so we went in the pool for a bit and then got dinner down the road. We did investigate Kahaluu beach but because we didn't have much time we decided to do our snorkling in Oahu rather than on the big island.

The next morning we toodled around until we had to get to the airport to fly to Oahu. The flight was fine and the weather in Oahu is much more enjoyable than the big island. We investigated the government center in Honolulu and saw the Capitol, which certainly looks nothing like any of the other capitols in the country. Then we drove up to the north shore and now we are at our hotel in Turtle Bay. This is a resort place so they have their own private beaches which look very nice. We'll be going to investigate and snorkel soon.
